Graphic and
Publication Design
Public design, such as posters or flyers, act like a window that connects content with its potential audience. My interest in this field has grown gradually, the more I realized the significant impact it can have on an audience’s decision to engage. In this sense, a cover can sometimes be understood as the first chapter or an introduction to the work itself.
I have designed several posters for dance performances and festivals. I have also long been interested in book design for similar reasons—especially since the cover is often the only purely visual element of a book. In this way, the cover becomes the face of the book, even though it does not originate directly from the author.
For the Japanese poet Bouto Izumi, I created the cover painting for her poetry collection, which was later designed and published by the book designer Shuko Hanayama.
